Raising a Nation of Baristas

In past decades Australia and many other western societies have seen a huge amount of their manufacturing jobs moved offshore to places like India, China, Thailand, Fiji etc. The cheap labour economies.

Now this has been great for helping to keep the cost of items down in our supermarkets and department stores. But what are the longterm ramifications to the employment prospects of future Australians?

With every passing year I see more & more companies moving off shore for their manufacturing or just outsourcing production oyr bodies to countries where labour is cheap. As a short term fix to rising salaries and other rising costs this might seem like a case of smart busines. However for the long term health and proserity of our nation I see this as an impending disaster.

When all our manufacturing and production jobs are gone overseas what job options will be left for our children and their children. Are they to work in cafes and department stores for the rest of their days? Are we setting up a nation where a Barista will be considered a cherished job?

Please think about this when next you have a choice to choose Australian or a cheaper foreign product. Because that really is not cheap, it may be costing your grandchildren and great grandchildren a hope of ever having a job.
