Friends of Great Success

Story One, Fay & Marc

In my life I have been blessed to know some extraordinary humans. People I am proud to have associated with and many of whom I can happily call my friends. So over the coming weeks I thought it would be nice to Blog about these wonderful friends and share their success and a little of their story with you.

Let’s start with my amazing friends Fay & Marc.

These two great people own a Pizza & Pasta chain in Kuala Lumpur Called Skippy’s Pizza ( The Pork Pizza Company )

Fay’s background is in Jounalism. She has worked for several Malay papers and the West Australian newspaper in Perth.

Marc started life as a mechanic but is also gifted with an extraordinary natural knowledge of electronics. Marc is a German expat working for a German company in KL.

Fay is Indian Malay. She did her university studies in Australia where her mother has lived for many years after relocating to marry an Aussie man.

They now have 3 gorgeous kids and live in a lovely house in one of the nicer outer KL suburbs.

Both Fay and Marc are two of this planets really nice people. Genuinely great friends and wonderful parents. Both have had to work hard to get what they have and to where they are today.

For years both had a passion for a business in food and alcohol. This led them to look at breaking into the food business in KL. Not an easy market to get into. The average length of time a new restaurant lasts in Kuala Lumpur is 6 months. But with confidence, a little faith and a ton of courage they decided to enter the food industry.

After looking around they realised no major pizza chain offered real pork on any pizzas in all of KL. Armed with this knowledge they decided to open Skippy’s ( The Pork Pizza Company )

Smartly they started out doing Pizza delivery from the basement of their home. Soon things like pork ribs and pastas were added to the menu. With lots of effort and great food the venture was a small success and they were out growing the basement. Time to take another leap of faith and open a dedicated restaurant. The first Skippy’s Pizza & Pasta Restaurant opened around 5 yrs ago. It was a success and Fay and Marc have grown from strength to strength.

Their are now 4 Skippy’s outlets in KL. In just over 5 years they have gone from a basement business to a small chain.

On the weekend I was honoured to be invited to the grand opening of Skippy’s 4. During the event I was watching my two friends and thinking about how they has managed such business success and family success. This is my conclusion. Now I must clarify this is only my opinion. Others may see it differently.

Their success is based on a foundation of love and moral honesty. Together they have raised three lovely children. This has been done with love of family and each other. Together they have grown a small restaurant chain in one of Asia’s toughest markets. This they have done by loving food, by being passionate about their product and their brand. They have a burning desire to provide quality food and drinks in wonderful surroundings.

I want to congratulate my friends Fay and Marc on their success. I hope they continue to grow in love and in business and I want to thank them for the many years of friendship.

Thank you for enjoyimg this story with me. 🙂
