Why do our governments hunt down the Whistleblowers

Two nights ago I watched Citizenfour, the amazing documentary on Edward Snowden @Snowden, the whistle-blower. Snowden is the brave soul who let the cat out of the bag, about America’s illegal surveillance (spying on) of US and foreign citizens worldwide in a collaboration with various spy agencies.

The documentary, should be terrifying to general citizenry, in the way that it showed how out of control and paranoid our governments are today. To watch this documentary, leaves you shaking your head in disgust at the actions of governments today, and in fear for the freedom of mankind. There was one fantastic line in the movie where after Snowden’s revelations are printed in the press, there is an all out search for Snowdon and investigation launched into how he managed to get his hands on the information. The line goes somewhat like this, it’s amazing that the government is investigating how he got the information but they are not investigating what was said in those revelations. It seems in the world today, there is a desire to hunt down the Whistle-blower, jail them, and shut them up. Just take the story of Julian Assange from WikiLeaks, he is hiding out in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London. He has taken refuge there to prevent the United States, via the UK and Swedish governments having him arrested. The US is wanting him for revealing secrets about their illegal activities worldwide on WikiLeaks. How can it be that the governments of the 21st century, are spending more time, and more money, hunting down the people that reveal the government’s illegal activities, than they do actually looking into and investigating the Crimes that these governments and their agencies are committing. The UK has reportedly spent millions of pounds on police sitting outside the embassy where Julian Assange is holding out. What madness.

It seems that as our governments become more paranoid, build more surveillance and spy agencies, that they seem to have a lot more to hide today. How can it be, that we as a population,n keep letting our governments go on and on and on taking away our liberties, our privacy, our rights to speak out against actions that our elected governments make? Is it fear of retribution from government agencies? Is it complacency? Is it just that we believe, that these agencies are supposed to be doing good and protecting us, and therefore we do not question their ulterior motives?

I as a free and independent citizen wholeheartedly support people like Snowden and Assange for their actions thatRell Hayes - Freedom they have taken, I feel that instead of being hunted down like traitors and dogs, they should be being lauded as Heroes of the people, and we should be doing all we can within our powers, to help these people and any other whistle-blowers, who choose to notify us of the incredible crimes that our governments are committing against us every day.

I implore everyone that reads this blog, to think about what is going to become of our world, if we keep on letting our governments and their agencies get greater power, whilst at the same time, our freedoms and our liberties are taken away piece by piece. It is time for all people to stand up and say enough, to vote out these governments that perform these illegal acts, to kick out the governments, that create and support these agencies that perform clandestine spying on their own people and innocent foreigners all across the planet.

If we do not take these actions now, we will have no freedom to take any such actions in the future.
